Acme adapter question
« on: Sep 13, 2006, 03:53:54 PM »
This has probably been covered somewhere, but I couldnt turn it up in a search.

Im looking at the Acme VW diesel adapter to Yota trans.
Acme says it mates any VW diesel to any Yota 4 cylinder trans, 1979-1996.

I thought there were several different trannys used with different bellhousing paterns.

DOes the ACme plate fit them all?
and if so which would you reccomend to use in a 95 4Runner that currently has an automatic?

thanks

I would recommend a W56,  probably the best, and easiest to find,  the SUPER strong R151   is BEST  but rare,  and :bling: expensive when you do find one

sounds like the acme adapter  just  mounts the engine to the bellhousing,  instead of alot of adapters  mounting to the tranny itself

Right, its a plate, not the whole bellhousing.

I have a similar one adapting the NV3550 to to the Ford bellhousing in my 74 Bronco.

So --ALL-- the  4 cylinder Yota 5 speeds have the same bellhousing pattern where it bolts to the engine?

Thats cool.

I have ACME kit mating a VW 1.9td to a w56.  It is a well designed and made kit.  I would highly recommend it.  The 1.9 engine produces some serious heat and power, and tends to eat the Sami trannies.  The 1.6's, as long as you don't get them too pumped up or drive too crazy, tend to be fairly kind on a good Sami tranny.
Sami on 35's w/VW 1.9 turbo diesel, W56, dual cases and twin stick, 5.29's, ARB's, YJ's, s/r, etc.
