2wd and 4wd 2nd gen body differences
« on: Sep 03, 2006, 09:58:20 PM »
I know the fenders are different, but I would just bolt my 4wd fenders on.  What about body mounts? are they in the same locations?  I am thinking about a 2wd extra cab on my 4wd standard cab frame.

TIA

PZ

P.S.  I did search, but I think I am bad at it because I didn't find much!

you run into the same issue, the extra cabs will mount i nt same spot, and the std cabs will also, its the fact you are trying to put an excab on a std cab that is the issue, you will need to make rear cab mounts and figure out something for the custom bed mounting as well...

my truck was an 85 std cab 2wd, and its got a 83 4x4 standard bed on it, bolted right up

i have seen 85s with 90s beds bolted on as well

sounds like a 2nd gen extra cab is my choice.  should be easyer to find, and cheaper.

So i just bought a 3rd gen extra cab, and from what I can see the body mounts are VERY VERY close to the same spot as my second gen stdcab!  So far the entire frame is the same, except for the IFS, 3.0 motor mounts, and its wheel base is about 20in longer.

Time to update the build!
