T-Case gear ratio identification

I am going to be checking out an 85 4runner tomorrow. The guy doesn't know too much about it it seems. He said that it has the Marlin crawler gears in the T-case. He was telling me it was like a 9:1  ratio which I doubted. (Maybe he has the 4.97:1?) He bought this runner 5 years ago from a guy that sent this case down to Marlin to have the gears installed. I notice that the Marlin cases seem to be numbered as people refer to them like "I have #305." Is there a way to identify his case externally and find out what version he has and the gear ration?

Well, if it has Dual cases with 1-4.70:1 gear set (known as an Ultimate), then it would be a 10.7:1 t/case setup.

If it only has gears, then the case would be marked, but only if they were installed at our shop. Otherwise the only way to know if you have a genuine Marlin Crawler gear set would be to disassemble the t/case and look for the engraved numbers and marking on the gears themselves.

Here is what the side of the case would look like if it was installed at Marlin Crawler. This one belongs to Bevin, and is one of the few "BigMike Signature Series" cases I have built as denoted by the "BM" badge below his unique gear set number

And here is the Input gear markings on Bevin's gear. This is a genuine Marlin Crawler Total-Spline 4.70:1 Gear set and like every gear set we sell, is officially registered with its own unique gear set number.

Thanks for the info. I am new to this Toyota stuff as my knowledge is in the Early Bronco area. He said he didn't have dual cases and is just a single case. I will take a look on the case for the stamp as he said the case was sent to you guys for the gear install.
