Can a motorhome make it into sandflats.  I am going there soon and thinking about camping there while running the trails.

Edit-It's about the size as Marlin's motorhome.

BigMike

I saw other trailers in there but they were towed by fullsize 4WDs.

From what I can remember, we did not lock in our hubs until the creek crossing, which is well into the trail beyond the sandflats.

I would like to say that you can, but I would wait for a 2nd opinion

I personally wouldn't!  There are some spots down below the sandflats we saw people camping at that were easy to get to and pretty flat!  The sand flats would be cool to camp at, but I would plan on camping down below and walk the road to see what you think you can do!

Thanks guys.  I was in there last year, but I couldn't remember if I could fit an RV in there or not.  I pulled my car trailer in there with my F150 last year and made it in without using 4 Wheel Drive.  I think my main concern would be overhanging trees and dips in the road.

DOnt worry I will pull you out.  GOt to try out the new e locker

Hottrod81

I have seen your landcruised try to pull out motorhomes.  I think that I will stick with the F-150.  Actually there will be an F-250 there.  Trucks have a better weight distribution. :moon:

I can also use my winch, it might burn up though.  Why dont you come over tomorrow and put my driveline on and hook up my steering for me.  Or you could wire my e locker.

Hey, with all of the BS going on recently perhaps you should call the Forest Service, California's senator, the president, and everyone in the world and make sure that you are allowed to park a RV there.

You could probably make it to the flats, but it would be a long & rough drive and a good chance of tearing something up. There are several nice spots to camp within a mile or so of the paved road, then its only 10 minutes or so in the trail rig to the trailhead. The 3rd or 4th little road to the right after you leave the pavement drops down by the creek and there is room for several camps in there. It would be a good idea to park and walk down to the creek before you drive in to make sure you can make it with your motorhome. The spot Im thinking of is the road before Camp Awahnee ,at least thats what I think it is called.

Thanks, I appreciate the heads up.  I haven't been up there yet this year and this is the 1st year that I have a motorhome so that's why I am asking.  When you say leave the payment, do you mean off of 168 or do you mean after you turn left at the corrals.  Thanks for the info.

crwlntoy

Im talking 168. Me and a buddy tried to tow our rigs to the flats a couple years ago on our car trailers and it took almostan hour and we stopped and parked before we even made it to the corrals. I will never do it again .
