another dual t/case question
« on: Aug 30, 2006, 07:13:40 AM »
I'm lookin' to do a dual case setup, but I need to do it slowly (would love to just call and get the Dual Ultimate Crawler, $1550 for 23 spline, but that's pretty much out of the question). Should I start by buying the MC dual case adapter with 10* rotation ($499) and then find another case and do it myself or buy the MC crawl box ($659 for 21 spline or $889 for 23 spline)? I could possibly afford the adapter soon, but the crawl box will take me a little while since I'll probably go with the 23 spline if I go that route. I read some other stuff on the board, and I'm a little confused if I can even use the 23 spline doing it the slow way. Any info would be great.

Thanks.

I'm guessing your existing setup has the 21 spline gear case?

If you want two cases with stock gear ratios, buy the 23 spline r10 adapter and a 23 spline input gear for the rear case. $660 plus shipping.  If your going that far, I'd recommend 4.7 gears in the back case(which are on sale now). $900 for gears and adapter.  I'd save and do it all at once.  I have a mc08 r10 adapter and love it.  I'm sold on the rotated adapters.

I'd love to do it all at once, but I'm not sure how long it'd take me to save up the money. Maybe, it's just better if I keep saving so I don't have to do the job 2 or 3 times.

I'm not sure, is there a way to know?

It's a 85 4cyl, and I still need to find out if the t/case has been messed with. The rest of the truck was, so I won't be surprised, but I need to find out for sure. If it's stock, then it's 21 spline?

http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/transmission/transmission.htm

Look at that link and figure out which transmission you have.   The only way to get a 23 spline front case would be behind the r151 tranny that came behind turbo trucks.   Most likely you have a g52 or g54 if it's carbed, w56 if it's efi.  The g and w series are 21 spline into the t-case.

one alternative you could do is buy a 21 spline adapter and find a case.  Run this and save for the 23 spline gear or gearset and 23 spline coupler.  Cost more in the end, but would be over time.
