Need install intructions for front axle.
« on: Aug 28, 2006, 10:28:54 AM »
As the title states, I'm in the process of getting all of the parts together for rebuilding the knuckles of my '85 front end. I'm wondering if there are any instructions online that I can take a look at so see what I'm getting in to. I'm ordering the knuckle rebuild kit with bearings from Marlin, as well as some other odds and ends with regards to the front end.

My other question for you guys is if there is anything I should go ahead and do to the front end while I'm rebuilding the knuckles? The front axle is stock except for around 5 inches of spring lift, stock steering and brakes. What do you guys recommend while I have it apart?

Thanks in advance,

D.

pull the diff and regear it now that you have it apart,  :yesnod:
even if you dont have the money to do the rear also,  its ALOT of work to redo it later

Thats actually what I was thinking, I need to regear the truck and I might as well pull the diff while I have it apart, the only problem there is of course I want to put in longfields and moly axles and a locker and $$$ and more $$$. Main reason i'm doing the front is because it started crying sludge pretty recently. I might have to just start buying the parts and when I get all of the ones I want do it then, I'm have a parts budget every month so it would take a while to do that. I did find a write up at birfield.com which is pretty good.

My truck seems to be like eating sometimes, your eyes are bigger then your stomach, well my wish list is bigger then my wallet.
