Front hub question
« on: Aug 24, 2006, 08:37:29 AM »
Is the only difference on the IFS vs. Solid Axle hub the inner hub gear?

In other words, if you replaced the inner hub gear in an IFS hub with an inner hub gear from a solid axle hub, would it work on a solid axle?

I am doing a SAS and would rather spend the money on longfield inner hub gears and use the IFS hubs than buy aftermarket hubs.

Thanks

I tried this it won't work, hub bodies are just a little off. I would suggest getting a set of factory asian hubs not aftermarket if you can, they are a stronger hub.   :twocents:

Where were you going to get the inner gears from?
I'd expect that the gear along would cost more than a good used hub.

The ONLY thing I wanted to do was to "match up" the front and rear so that spare parts are easier to carry.
But its more $$$ than its worth (spline count on the IFS is lower and "weaker")
(I plan on a FF conversion)
The easiest route would be custom rear axles but the cost is $$$ and Id be making a weaker axle - doh
yeah yeah - still IFS...

The selector is NOT the same.
I think the height is different.
The Dial handle is different.
And of course the SLPINE count is different (hence the discussion to swap the inner part..

the stock toyota (aisin)  hubs are FAR stronger than anything warn has for the yota axle

Warn hubs are junk compared to the Aisins.  You can get the Sky Manufacturing spacer kit and then they will work.
