What in the name of god is an RN39?
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

fyi, the red truck of marlin(if it is his') is an RN46...if i am correct...

the R means it has an R-model engine like the 20R or 22R and other numerically lower numbered engine released by toyota.

that wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.  the R is part of a model number.
unless toyota used one plant to manufacture all the hiluxs and celicas for well over a decade, I would have to go with the R designating an R series motor.. my celica does, afterall, have a 20R in it.

Semble is right,

R designates R series motors

N designates it as a hilux/truck or 4Runner

the 3 and 9 are model specific/series/grade numbers

From the factory it would have a 20R, now it has a 3RZ-FE

That thread bigmike did on marlins 3RZ swap talked about the engine(s) that have been in the truck ...but didn't the 22R first come in the 1981 model year? Thats from the factory of course, not to say it wasnt swapped.
