Marlin's Drop in Third Members
« on: Jul 27, 2006, 06:47:54 AM »
I have been trying to get through to Marlin Crawler over the phone but as wee all know sometimes it is impossible.  I have been checking prices around local shops, and on line and have found that I might as well just buy a drop in third from marlin and be done.  I am looking at gettin it set up with 5.29's and a Detroit,  My question is, if anyone can answer it.
Does Marlin offer any warranty on the drop in thirds set up this way?
Is there a core charge?
Most of the local shops will offer a one year warranty on the gears and a five year warranty on the locker.  Is there a core charge?  Most the shops want about $1200 average for these same parts.  Thanks for any advice.

Im guessing the original questions were covered in the PM so im taking the liberty of hijacking this thread with a question of my own.

Would there be a way to have a Marlin drop-in third built with some treated gears from bobby long if the gears were sent to the shop and there was no hurry? Also, what would the reduction in price be to account for supplying the gears?

Just to answer the previous questions here, Yes, we have a 1-year warranty that is *nearly* unlimited, basically short of leaving you truck parked on rail road tracks. As the webpage says, "All products guaranteed for one year against defects in materials and labor." And, No, There are no core charges.

Would there be a way to have a Marlin drop-in third built with some treated gears from bobby long if the gears were sent to the shop and there was no hurry?
Yes, this is not a problem at all. When you place the order, just be sure to let us know to expect a package from Longfield (or from you) and we will wait until that package arrives to come in.

All you've gotta do is deduct the price of what we sell the gear set individually from the complete drop in third.

For instance, if a 5.29:1 w/Detroit costs $995, and we sell 5.29:1 gears for $195, then $995 - $195 = $800.

Man, that's a sweet deal. I wish I would've thought of that.

I bought one V6 3rd off Marlin I have just went through the break in period and it is sweet. Oil to be changed before it hits the road again. From what I can tell it is set up right. Go for it cant go wrong with a Marlin built rear.
