Tundra (Daily Driver) Tire Selection

I am starting to shop new tires for my Tundra.  I don't plan on taking it off-road (that is what my 85 is for) so I'm looking for long tread life, quiet ride, excellent wet traction, good snow traction and overall appearance.

The tire size is 265/65/R17

Keep in mind that there isn't a good BF Goodrich All Terrain option in the 17 inch wheel.  :rivers:
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

i run the mud version and the have worn great,  and lasted a long time

I always had great luck with BFG All-Terrains, they are spendy but 50,000 miles later you'll be glad you did, not to mention they do extremely well in wet and snowy conditions.
P.S. they lasted 50k on my moms 2nd gen 4runner, your truck is probably a little heavier, but I bet if you rotate them regularly you'll still get 40,000

They don't have a 265/65/R17 or this would be an easier choice, see my first post.  My dad got close to 60,000 miles on a set of Mud KM tires on his K5 Blazer so I'm sure mileage would be excellent.

I have those same bridgestone duelers on my 2wd taco and they are wearing great.  I haven't had them in the mud yet, but they suck in the snow.  I'm really happy with them for around town driving and for tread life.  They are real quiet on the road plus they are a reasonable price.

I had some Michelin LTX m/s tires on my old '88 toy dd and they are probably the best suitable tire for you.  They were definetaly the best tires I've ever had on a dd and lasted over 80k miles!  The price sure reflected it too.  They were real quiet, had great traction in the mud, rain and snow.  In fact, I remeber plowing snow with my bumper on that old truck.  The mud I took it through was just some big mud puddles though, not the southern mud I see 4x's playing in.  The only down side to these tires is if you live on a gravel road, they like to chuck gravel all over your rocker panels.

the yoko's are a kick ass tire. my old man had them on his runner. dont think you'll be dissappointed

On Marlin's Tundra, he's still got the 16s, but he went up one size for better drivetrain wear/tear and better highway mileage.

Michelin LTX M/S, P265/70 R16 (LTX M/S)
Rated: 2403lb @ 35psi

They are wearing really nice and we've had it (truck + trailer) loaded from Denver at 14,000 lb and again from Moab at 20,200 lb. Yes, Twenty Thousand Pounds, No Joke. He showed be the verified truck stop scale receipt. The tires squat well and have a nice ride and also are pretty decent in light (slippery) snow/ice (last winter in Yosemite).

So my point is that I have never liked Michelin Mtn. Bike tires, which, ironically, have somehow caused me to also dislike Michelin vehicle tires, but after seeing how these tires do I am impressed :twocents:

I have narrowed it down to the following tires:

(1) Toyo Open Country A/T

(2) Goodyear Fortera Triple Tread

I was offered a set of the Goodyears today with an 80,000 mile tread warranty, I think they were confused but I am planning to find out.  It would be a great way to get a good deal on the next set of tires.

Living in Washington with rain and some snow, plus I don't use the Tundra for off road, the Goodyear could be perfect.

  The stock tire is 265/75R16 so a 265/70R17  makes a great fit.

  My manual (canada) lists the 265/75R16 as the stock size, but it had 70r's on it There is lots of room for the 17 rims and if you got 17X8 it's a marrage made in heaven.  But He's already bought the skins so the point is now for debated for the debate only right. :wave:

i think that you should go with the yoko geolander 2 the wear like iron my dad has 35000 and there is still 50 %  left. they are also cheaper then the BFG AT
and i think that if you run the BFG it depends on the driving you do because ive taken tires that have 25000 on them and are bald and some with 30% after 40000 but it depends what you want

Goodyear Fortera Triple Tread tires have been purchased and installed several weeks ago.  They look great and will be perfect for everything I want the truck to do.

The ride is more firm than the stock tires with a bit more road noise, but they seem to handle well.
