I have a question that is really stumping me. I had my valve seals replaced due to leaking oil past them on a 1985 22R and I am replacing the plastic timing chain guides for metal ones at the same time. While I was there, I checked the chain per the Toyota manual which says for any 17 links the maximum measurement should be 147 mm (or 5.8 inches). My problem is that my chain looks really good, but for the 17 link measurement I am at least 0.3 inches over the limit. I went to the local parts house and measured a new one. It measured just like the one I have and in excess of factory manual. Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really do not want to replace unless I need to.
