how fast can u go in your 22r
« on: Jun 22, 2006, 09:17:21 PM »
so i picked up an 82' longbed, it has about a 3"lift on some 33's, the motor has about 180k on the clock. I cannot get that thing past 55mph even on the flatest of ground , know if there is a slight downhill and the wind is pushing from behind I can get it up to 65 :clap2: How dose your guys's rigs run? is my motor tired or is this just normal. Also after I got the truck I changed the oil, plugs, cap and rotor, and wires thinking this might help it out a bit, but it still runs the same. What do you guys think?

you have 33's  but did you change the gearing in the differentials?? you would need 4.88's

stay out of 5th gear, these engines like to rev up to 3500  before you shift  and the sweet spot is around 3000

I did 85mph down hill with 5.29's and 35's.  22r had about 280,000, but about 80,000 on the rebuild supposably.  it could maybe do 70 on flatground at the most.

i can pull it to 70 but it takes a while. remember, your going way faster than what the speedo says. if your going 60 on the speedo, your probably going past 70.

yeah I thought about that issue. But when im getting passed by 18wheelers, its going pretty slow.

here is what you do...drive up to the 18 wheeler, directly behind him, and at the last minute change lanes. it's like a sling-shot. drafting can save you money at the pump and allow you to go faster! serious...

to solve the problem, you have to swap in a 3rz.

I guess I drive a fast toyota :dunno:  I wonder why.  Hahaha.  I can cruise all day on the freeway at 75-80 with a full load on the way to the trail.  I've hit 90 and let off because my bent rims and 37's dont feel too good.  I'm running 5.29s and 37" mtrs.

when my truck had 37's, 5.29's and a old tired 22R with 290k on the ticker it would run 80 on the freeway no problem.

Although it would rattle my teeth out of my brain   :gap:

Sand, what fun, drop pressure to 12psi, stock tires are still digging, can't afford to get stuck, 8psi, still not working. Find a place to GET OUT, air up, un-lock hubs,  WAIT whats this, hubs are UN-LOCKED already. 2wd, 8psi, stock tires, Oregon sand dunes.

[Dr Evil Voice] One Million miles per Hour [/Dr Evil Voice]   ;)

When I bought the truck it had 3:80's in the rear and 31" tires..  It would take 5 min to get up to 60mph, but that thing would easily do 90.  the truck would start shaking around 90 so I never tried going much faster.   Of course the speedo only said 60..

Now I have 4:10s (to match the front, so I can wheel) on 30" tires and I easly cruze at 85 in fifth gear...

Also after I got the truck I changed the oil, plugs, cap and rotor, and wires thinking this might help it out a bit, but it still runs the same. What do you guys think?

65-75 maybe is your tops for a stock 22r 4x4 especially if your running bigger tires.  anyone that says they can go faster is a liar or going downhill.  Mine goes faster because I put alot of time and money so that it could do so
