As the title states.
hp44/9inch...44 has warn chromos and lockrite, 9 has 31 spline axles and spool...3.55 gearrs.
What is a lockrite? What is a spool?
Thanks. Sorry, I need to know urgently!
Chris
a lockrite is a inexpensive automatic locking differential, and a spool is a full time locker, kinda like welding the diff, but with bolts. both are ok for trail use and minor street use. as for the axles, sounds like they came out of an early bronco or f150

hp44 is a Dana 44 axle with a High Pinion differential, and the 9 inch is a rear end from a Ford.

A Lockrite is a "Lunch-Box" type locking differential, meaning that it replaces the carrier guts rather than the whole carrier itself. The Lockrite will lock the differential when Torque is applied, and has a ratcheting design that allows for power differention when high torque loads are not present. So it "trys" to act like an open differential when power is not transmitted through it.

Here is the manufactures webpage: http://www.powertrax.com/locker.htm

A Spool locker is not a Lunch-Box type locker. It replaces the entire carrier assembly. Unlike other lockers, a Spool Locker does not feature any spider gears or any type of locking mechanism. It is a one-piece unit that replaces the whole carrier and spider gears, and thus locks both axles together onto one piece. Wow, that really sounds confusing, that was pretty bad :ack:

Here is a picture of a Spool Locker:

There are no moving parts and the ring gear bolts directly to it. Both axle shafts slide into the ends of the Spool locking them as one. Unlike the Lockrite and every other type of locker, a Spool is a always on, full locker. It has the same result as welding all of the gears together, but it is both lighter and stronger.

You can see the Spool Locker on our webpage here:
