issue with mounting shocks to my 85 bottom stock mounts
« on: Jun 09, 2006, 07:55:12 PM »
I know what a dumb question

I cant seem to get my ranchos into the bottom shock mount, no matter how hard I try. I tried hammer, prybar and wedging things in and then pulling it out and being fast with the shock, no luck. I thought about trimming the metal sleeve and I dont think thats a good idea. I thought about using a torch to heat it up, but then what? I seriously dont want to cut these off and replace them, but I dont know what to do. Help   :dunno:  ???

thanx in advance

I am talking about the front shock mounts on the bottom. Sorry bout that.

trim the metal sleeve with a cutoff wheel, die grinder, hell, even a hacksaw will work.  Just don't take too much out, or it'll have a little rattle.

I got bolts to match the bushings without the sleeves, then drilled the bracket holes out to match.  No problems, plus bigger hardware.  :)

maybe my truck is jsut wierd, but the spot where the shock mounts has the metal sleeve already, the rubber of the shock goes through it directly....

included with the shocks were metal sleeves to make up thickness differences on different vehicles, they were not used on my truck

Yeah, but you're a 2x4, so you have a stud on top and a two bolt flange on the bottom, right?  SA trucks have an eyelet on the bottom.

the 'lifted' gabrials  are special order only,  i'll try and find  a part number for ya, but in the mean time,  just grind a touch off the metal sleeve inside those ranchos,  not a big deal

I just finished  installing my shocks.     I trimmed the metal sleeve and also sanded the polyurethane a little so I could work it in. I did it evenly and now I got front shox again. No more driving with out front shocks and bouncing all over the road.    :ha_ha:    I can go fast again!!!!    :driving:
