« on: Dec 22, 2003, 01:38:37 AM »
I just bot back from the shop but this time I got to work on my own junk! :_order: just did hillbilly crossover, rears up front and my own brand of rears :flamer: the truck went from riding like an old sherman to being a tuna boat!  Now I just gotta lengthen my front driveline so I can get some flex shots. those are the old fronts in front of my truck.  I wonder why it rode so rough?

I think it sits pretty decent now but I need to lengthen my shackles especially the front ones they are real close to the body mounts and I have about 1 degree of caster! the thing follows EVERY groove in the road!  gonna fix that before it goes any farther.

heres the rear hanger.  the hangers were by far the easiest part of the whole setup.  they are stock off of old mopars. in the sixties they had bolt on mounts like these so I just unbolt em' and weld em back on!

Hey thanks white.
where did u get the stacks for ur truck at a semi truck shop or just from the exhaust shop and how much do they run.
Im gonna do the same thing on myne but im gonna run the 4 banger threw them or maby swap in a super charged 3.4 tacoma motor.

Also what size tires are u clearing with the rear springs up front im looking into a new lift but i want too clear 37's with my 3 inch body lift and a suspension lift but i dident know what size tires u can fit with the rear on the front?

Thumper If you wanna sound really sick use a single into dual 50 series flowmaster.  I had that muffler on a 91 nissan 2.5 to 2 in. duals it sounded absolutely killer.  I can only imagine what it would sound like with a header and stacks! :yipes:  I got the stacks from a semi shop for $108 tax included.
The tires are 38x12.5 tsl's  the springs have a 2 in. traildisaster aal with a leaf out of the origional stupidlift 7 in. pack and a 63 international leaf cut down and thrown in for good measure.  The hanger is dropped about 2 3/4, 2 in. longer shackles with a 3 degree castor shim in backwards so its drivable.  I dont think you will have any issues with about the same setup you just wouldnt need all the extra leafs cause ya aint got a sbc.

Toyoballs it does sound pretty sweet, I used to have twisters on it (they used to be marketed by moroso) they were just too damned loud!  now I have V-Force V-5's I love them not as tinny as flowmasters but sound awsome at WOT!

When your exhaust ends with 4 in. stacks about 2 feet from your ears, yes there is such thing as too loud! :ack: It would make your ears ring if you drove it for about an hour strait.  That my friend Im pretty sure is too loud.

Hey thanks white.

I want too try the stacks idea im gonna come out of my long tube headder into a prob 40 series flowmaster with duel outlets into the stacks comeing out of the bed under my cage then install the flame thrower stuff into the stacks, that will sound wicked i like the way my 40 series sounds on my 2wd i have and with flames shooting out of the stacks it will look and sound sweet.
  :driving: :flamer: :maddest:

I think im going too try doing the rear springs on the front of my truck it sounds like it works pretty good and looks pretty easy too fab up. :ack:
do u think ill have any probs with my stock steering setup sence the axel will be 2 inches closer too the box.might have too cut my drop steering arm down a lil too make it work  or just fab up some crossover steering.

With the axel moved forward 2 inches do ur 38's rub the firewall any behind the tire, a buddy of myne was running 38's with a sbc and he kept getting into the fenders and firewall and breaking birfields and thats the last thing i need. :puke: more broken birfields.

Thanks again
adam

If you leave the stock steering on it it will steer like shiat!  Got bump steer?  If not ya will, just make a good crossover setup and be done with it.  Mine is just a stock 81 tie rid that I cut down welded and sleeved.  easy as anything.  all the parts shouldnt cost all that much and it will steer MUCH better than it did with the stock BS ever did.  My tires havent rubbed yet but they will Im sure of it.  All that I have around here right now is snow and that dont cause rubbn'.  I had thought about the flamethrower kit but havent convinced myself to do it yet.

I dont have any bump steer right now but i will prob just do cross over that way i dont have too worry about it. thats the last thing i need is some 37 boggers trying too steer me the wrong way.
Do u have any pics of ur truck flexing after u did the spring swap? id like too see it in action.
thanks

If being Whitetrash means having a hydraulic lift in the shop, then I gotta make better friends with all the yokems out in the hills! I'd be stoked to have a cement floor again! no wonder all my projects take forever.

As if I have a lift in my shop :smack: I wish, you just gotta have better friends!  The guy that owns that shop has buildt some pretty cool hotrods, luckily he has been nice enough to let me do a lot of work on them.   I have known him for a few years. My truck is the second 4x4 to EVER be in that shop!  The first was his sammy When I did A spring over on it for him.  When  I asked to use his shop he was sorta reluctant for a minute but said that I could just because Ive got a sbc! Cool dude.  I think Ill start another post to show yall some of the cool things we've built

88runner that is a stock rear hybrid  I described them torwards the top.

He used toyota rear springs with a few other leaves mixed in with them. when u put the toyota rear springs on front it moves the axel forward 2 inches too clear the firewall better.
This is what he is running up front.
