During this summer I plan on buying a 84-89 4runner to build up.  My plans are to swap in a 3RZ with a 5speed.  My question is if I buy a 4runner that is automatic how hard is it to swap in a 5speed from the same year?  What would I have to change?  Or would it be easier to get the transmition from the donor engine truck?  If I did that would the t-case mount up or would I need that from the donor truck to?  Thanks

The transfer case behind the auto is a chain drive unit, the 5sp has the 21 or 23 spline gear driven unit.  If you get a 5spd to swap in you will also need to get the gear driven case to go with it.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

your better off just buying a 5 spd and not going through all the work of converting it over.  Just my opinion though.
1986 Toyota 4Runner 22re 5spd transmission and dual transfer cases (4.7's in the rear). E-lockers front and rear.

2005 GMC Sierra diesel, compound turbo setup to pull.

The one in San Fran has nice paint but it doesn't have the rear seat nor carpet and the one I found in Salt Lake has some surface rust and the motor spun a rod bearing.  The interior is ok on the Salt Lake one and its a 5spd.   Decisions decisions
