jumpy idle at start
« on: May 29, 2006, 04:04:43 PM »
I have a 89 22re, so why when I start it the rpms are around 2000? once it warms up it idles around 800. also after I start it half way before it is fully warmed up i hit the brakes and the rpms cut out then go high , repeat.(this is due to the rmps being too high, I think) any suggestions? my 87 22re starts up perfect and idles at 750 all the time, cold, hot doesn't matter.

it should idle cold around 1200-1400

and idleHOT around 750-850

sounds like your brake booster has a hole in it causing a MAJOR vaccuum leak

Try putting it in 4low when you start it and see if it still does the high low deal. If it doesn't your Idle needs to be adjusted.

Look for vacuum leaks, get a can of wd 40 and spray around and listen for idle change or get a vacuum gauge and see how the needle sits
