:attention: help! I know nothing about towing so I just had a quick question. I'm going to be getting an '03 Mazda Tribute for dirt cheap. It has a 3500 lb towing capacity, V6, 200 HP, automatic. Can I tow my rig with it?? I'm thinking not.... :dunno:

You could tow your rig with an 89 Chevy Sprint Turbo if you really wanted.  It's just a matter of how fast, what terrain(hilly or flat), and how loud you want the tranny to scream.

Basically, it's an Explorer.  Do you plan on flat towing or using a trailer?? I would think for weight reasons, it would flat tow better than pull a trailer with the truck on it.

Bottom line, It will do it, but it'll be tough on the trans uphill.

Flat tow. I fergot to mention it's only got 30,000 miles on it so it's practically new. My mom (who drives like my grandma) owned it so it's had a really easy life. I live in Missouri so there's usually hills where I wanna go but no mountains. Is it the same engine used in the Exploder? This is a 3 liter engine, 24v, DOHC, V6. Crap, I figured it might work since it's a lightweight SUV (?) with a v6. Yes, Duffil, it is possible to tow with a 4cyl. I have first hand experience. haha

yea, it' sthe same engine.  Ford/Mazda are basically the same company.  They've used the same engine in pickups and SUVs since the early 90s.

Like I said, you can do it, but the trans prolly won't be happy.

Wrong, a Mazda Tribute is the same thing as a Ford Escape.  Not nearly as truck like as an Explorer. Explorers use a 4.0 V6 or a 4.6 V8.  The Tribute is a front wheel drive vehicle, that engages the rear wheels when it senses wheel spin.  IFS,IRS, and a front wheel drive car drivetrain.  Tow at your own risk.  It'll puke.
