Stock Toyota Rear Spring Bushing
« on: May 09, 2006, 11:58:05 AM »
O.k. here is what I have surmised from searching and reading.  Regarding my stock toyota rears up front.  On an 1985 truck or 4Runner, the main rear leaf has the small diameter sleeved bushing on one end.  I want to run the Marlin supplied larger bolts through the spring to hang it from my Marlin front drop spring hanger.  So, the sleeved bushing needs to be pressed out and a new poly or rubber bushing installed.  I am hearing that these larger diameter bushings are available at Napa?  Correct so far?  Two questions though.  What is the best/easiest method of removing the sleeved bushing (burning it out or pressing)?  Does the outer metal sleeve that is within the spring eye that holds the sleeved rubber bushing need to come out or does it stay in?

Probably a dumb question, but right now I've got my front hanger rigged to use the stock bolts and they are not as long or as stout as you would like.  Thanks for any help.

i tried using my press with out success. it was like it was coming out and then it would bounce back. i left the outer sleeve. i think your supposed to. i ended up getting them out by drilling it out with a hole saw. i tried burning one out but was too messing.
