Backspacing...

so i went to the wheel and tire place, because i was loooking at some 15x10 Black Rockcrawler rims, and i dont know much about rims but i was asking about a 2.5 backspacing on the rims cause i noticed it seemed like a lot of people on here had them.  well the guy had a little freak outtt, all like that is so terrible that the tire will be too far off the knucle putting stress on it and probably breaking it (mind you i run 33s and dont reaallyy slam it around).  and was talking about how i wouldnt be able to fit bigger tires because it will be sweeping in the turn radius instead of pivot (which makes sense).  he also said anything with 2.5 isnt made for a toyota its for chevy.  so i was just wondering if it really is bad? and if so what backspacing?

my 15x10's  are a 3.5 bs  i think  if you lay the wheel with the outside facing the ground  and put a straight edge  across the rim then measure to the wheel mounting surface,  thats the backspacing

new chevy trucks have like 5 inch back spacing

Bah, there are people out there running much less backspacing...the toy knuckles are ok to handle the 2.5 inches.  They will increase your scrub radius and slightly decrease your turning radius, but provide the stability of a wider stance.

Oh, and if he thinks front end parts on a chevy are stronger than a toy axle...well he just don't know dat much bout trucks.  Besides, the lighter toyota will put less stress on the knockles than a pig fullsize will. 

By the by, I run 2.5 rockcrawlers and I like em just fine.  My knuckles are doing well thank you!

thanks for the input, was your truck street legal like that when you were in CT?
also where is old florida road?

Old FL Road is up the Mohawk Trail in NW Mass.  I don't know about legal, but I did drive it on the road.  I am running 14.5 inch wide tires as well...if you are gonna stay with 12.5's you will appear much more "legal!"
