Dust shield question

just got done putting in my new third up front, put everything back together and realized i for got to put the dust shields back on.  i'm leacking up front from somewhere and its getting all over my rotor on the passenger side.  should i take it back apart and and put the dust shields back in?  i've seen truck without them, but i'm not sure if you cut the center out, or just take the whole thing out.

Just cut the center out.
They need to be in there.

yea ,you want that gasket  there, but cut the outer part off

It makes it a lot easier to put it all back together without having that brake line connected to the shield and trying to hoist it all up there on the spindle.
