Doc, this is now your thread to ask all of your questions and do research instead of starting a new thread every time. People will look at your build thread and answer questions for you when they can as well as give you the oohs and ahhs.

i bought an aussie locker a couple of days ago, its for the front of my 1980 toyota 4x4 pickup, it says it's a 30 spline locker, does that mean i gota order the 30 spline longfeilds or could i still use 27 spline longfeilds, i dont get it.

they are all 30 spline in the third, the 27 and 30 spline birfs are reffering to the birf end of the axle and inside the birf

ohh, i see, what size of Longfeilds do you think i should go with, i will probably run 36" 37s or 38s, most likley 37s, it will be welded in the rear and i will have an aussie locker up front!!!!
Should i go with the 27 spline set or the 30 spline set, i have a 20r engine and a 4 speed tranny and will be using 5.29 gears!!!

I run 38's on Long 30 splines, Bobby claims the 30's will hold up to 42's.

sounds good  except the 7"  skyjacker lift,   thats too much lift,  and 7 inches of skyjacker lift will be like riding a brick truck

what about a 5 inch skyjacker kit, im chosing skyjacker kit becuase i heard they mount right into stock location, i cant get anyone to do the welding for chevys, plus i cant afford a high quality kit, and its not a daily driver!!!

i think you will be ALOT happier  getting some used f150 springs and adding them into your stock toy springs,  but  if  you use skyjacker  dont get more than a 5 inch spring

i need something that will give me enough lift to fit some 38 inch swampers on, and something that will flex alot, maby i should just take the time to save up for a welder so i can do the chevy 63s or ford f150s and Rancho 44044s waggies or put the rears up front, iève read the faq for how to do the chevy 63s in the rear but i have not seen anything about moving your stock rears to the front!!!

moving the rears to the front you need to remove the load leafs  and add a couple leaves  so they arent too soft, and sag,   you also HAVE to use hysteer

ya, i was reading some faqs about using your rears up front and chevy 63s in the back, looks like a pretty good setup to me, lots of flex, think im gona try and take that route, would it be bad to use a 2 inch block lift in the back with the 63s

Would these springs flex well

Sup :blah:

If you were to buy some 7 inch skyjacker leaf springs for front and rear for a 80 yota pickup, and if you took like 3 or 4 springs out from each pack, do you guys think that would flex any good, or would stock rears up front and chevy 63s flex better .......

Smurfields
« Reply #89 on: Jun 10, 2006, 11:37:00 PM »
Have any of you guys ever heard of Smurfields!!!
Anyways, You take out your stock birfs and send them to this guy who welds a ring into the birf and heat treats them, they are supposed be SUPER STRONG and people run them with 38s locked!!! and dont break them, even on tough trails like Moab, Ubicon, and itès crazy cause it only cost $40 Canadian per birf.  Ive been researching these things and read lots of happy custumors running these Smurfs with large tires ( 35 inch 38 inch 40 inch ) and dont run into problems at all.
The cool thing is this guys shop is like 10 minutes away from where i live so, i am gona ditch the longfields and get my birfs SMURFED.
Here is his website.

http://www.trdv.ca/offroad/smurfindex.html

and here are a few topics about the Smurfs.....

http://bb.bc4x4.com/showthread.php?threadid=74422&highlight=Smurfield

Also  try searching for them, all i have heard about these is good things, check it out, how could you go wrong for $40
