Topic: engine won't restart

i have an 87 4runner that i just swapped in an 88 motor. i swapped thye engine wiring harness in with the motor. i can start the motor runs great, take it for a drive, drives fine, shut it off and restart it no problem. the problem is if i let it sit for a couple hours it won't restart just kicks. seems to be getting fuel and spark. ran great in donor truck but has a new timming chain and sprockets and head gasket when swapped . motor is timed right. will fire right up if sat overnight . just lookinfg for other ideas??? sorry for the long post.

check your grounds... sounds wierd.. but its something to look for

I have the same problem with my 86 turbo runner, after an hour or 2, mine is a really hard start, it will fire, then die immediately. It takes about 7 or 8 times and then mine will start.
But, after sitting overnight, no problems.

I initially thought, dirty or just plain worn-out injectors.

there is a tsb for something like this, but i don't think it's on the 88's--look into the coolant temp sensor and the cold start injector time switch, they upgraded those in some way for a similar problem.....just another thought

checked grounds, changed coolant temp sensor and cold start switch, tryed another computer. 88 motor does not have sensor on top of thermostat like 87 but i used the 88 wiring harness so the only other differnce is 88 motor 02 sensor is down by the cat where the  87 is in exhaust manifold(which i used because that part of harness is hooked to the dash). the 87 motor works good put back in the donor truck though???

tried changing fuel pump, mass air, coil, distrib still same problem. figured out if you pump throttle will restart after a couple of cranks. once going motor runs excellent.

air flow sencor wierd but I bet it is something real silly.
have heard about this before but canīt put my fingure on it what the deal was?
