longfields for 85 4runner
« on: Apr 16, 2006, 03:06:51 PM »
I need to put all new seals on my front axle on my 85 4runner, and so I thought when I dont that I might as well put in longfields. I wanted to put the 30spline in but I was told it wont work... Would it make that much of a difference if I just put in the 27spline?

Why won't it work?

If you do inner and outer it will.

Someone is feeding you a line. Give Marlin's shop a call.

The 30 splineers won't fit on your stock inner shafts...you have to buy the full set to run 30's.  The 27 s will fit fine on your stock shafts and later on if you want to buy the 30 spline inner shafts you can buy a 30 spline cage for your longs and convert the 27 spliners to 30.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

If you have the budget the 30-spline set will keep you from having to fix them on the trail.  Unless you really hammer on things with large tires the 27-spline Longs should also be excellent, even with stock inner axles.

30-spline Super Set $635 from Marlin or Bobby Long direct

27-spline Set $550 from Bobby Long direct

27-spline Chromoly Birfield only $390 from Bobby Long direct

The botton line is that all three are a good way to go and depending on budget it is only

$160 for upgraded chromoly inner axles

and another $85 for the :bling:
