Is the Barret Lake trail open in the winter to wheeled vehicles?, looking for other places to winter snow wheeling/camping.

Not %100 but I know that if there is any precipitation during the normal season, they shut the trail down. They try to keep as few chances for damaging the trail as possible. So I'm guessing it's closed. Fun trail BTW

No it is not! It will open next year when the snow has melted.

Do you know of any trails that are open in the winter to 4x4's other than the upper section of the Rubicon(Tahoe side-atleast it used to be), Fordyce trail(from Eagle Lakes/Hwy 80 side).  I usually go up out of Chico(Highlakes), just looking for some different scenery.

The Loon Lake side of the Rubicon is open during the winter, but all 4 wheelers are being asked to access the Rubicon during the winter season from Wentworth Springs.

We want people to avoid the Loon Lake area since it is used by cross country skiers, boy scouts and people that want to enjoy the area on foot and not see a bunch of tire tracks in the snow. This is to help keep the trail open and the eco nazis off of our backs. We want to show a good image. Friends of the Rubicon (FOTR) has been doing a lot of great work on doing this.

Thank you for the heads up on Wentworth springs.  Is the Rubicon as crowded as much in the Winter as in the Summer months.  The area that I usually wheel up out of Chico(Plumas Nat'l Forest) is becomming pretty crowded on the weekends, and is starting to lose its appeal.  I am thinking of trying to get a petition started to get the Forest service to open up OSV areas to four wheelers in Tahoe and other areas.  We make far less noise and pollute less(those who still run smog equipment) than snowmobiles do, so it can't be a pollution issue to keep us off of those areas.
