Modification to marlin springs?
« on: Apr 14, 2006, 06:33:10 AM »
May sound weird but I am looking to loose an inch lift from my front marlin springs. Appear to be 4" lift, (on vehicle when I bought it), had to put lift shackles on it for the longer springs, PO did not move spring perch forward and now winch mount is part of front crossmember. Wondering what leaf/leaves to remove if anyone knows. I have 63" chevys in the rear and now am sitting a  little low in the rear.
All help is appreciated!

thanks

I have removed 2 leafs from my rear 4" USA :turtle: springs which dropped it about an inch.. But I have never removed leafs from the front packs.

Start with the bottom (shortest) leaf and work your way up. It would be best to experiment which would take more time, but would provide the best results.

For example, remove the two lower leafs and see how that looks, rides, and flexes. Then put them back on and remove only the 3rd leaf up from the bottom. Then see how that looks, rides, and flexes. You can try all sorts of combinations, but if you can, I would recommend trying to remove the shortest leafs as possible.

Also, what pirches are you using? The factory pirches? Is it possible to make the pirches a little bit shorter?

Remember, any distance added to or removed from the shackle will result in a half-change in the ride height. For instance, if you install shackles that are 1" shorter, your ride height will decrease by only 1/2".
