Chevy springs question?
« on: Apr 13, 2006, 12:42:59 PM »
So I got 2 sets.63's  1 set stock rears off a 4x4 1/2 ton  And 1 set 3" lift springs.
I want to run some side 33's with room for 35's in the future.  For the rear has anyone used a 3"lift spring off a chevy? I've heard I should get 4-5" of lift out of it?
The front im still trying to figure out if buying :smack: a new pair of lift springs would be the way to go or the rear to front with shckles set up and or if that would match up well with the back.

Trucks a 84' ext cab that will more see sand dirt and mud with not much "hard core" crawling but more mud and dunes and that sort of wheeling.
Personally I like the vid off this site of the runner in the dunes at Pismo. That suspenion setup looked like something I had in mind.

if you use 63"s, yes, or you can put a double shackle on the rear

twerp, you may have to mess with the leaves a little, but IIRC, rears up front gives you 3-4" of lift

Ahh double shackles? Ok. Relocation or double up? Is one way "better" then the other?

So from what ive been finding, rears up front with some shackles may do the job? Hows the ride on those?

Some good info here. And yes ive been to the other boards and FAQ. Just always good to here it straight.

4x4 spring rate wont be too stiff? Or just a mix and match as I go with trying to get a good ride? Thanks for the info, im just trying to keep the project on a budget and learn as I go along rather then just going totally store bought on the lift. Pretty stoked with the truck though as my last project was a headache awd turbo car :_order:

I've got the front hanger moved forward :dunno:  either way is good, the double shackles "can" unload on you, but I think that is fairly rare.

Your best bet is to get the rears up front mounted, and drive it.  See how you like it, and go from there.  Each person is different, and so is every set of springs.  Thats the nice thing about using the stockers, is their cheap and you can mix'm around

dood....peep out the chev spring swap faq on pirate4x4.

I'm 99% sure(off the top of my head)you need to move the front hangars forward *about* 9 inches. you also must move your shackle hangars back *about* 4 inches OR use a double shackle OR really long single shackle.

do the math on the springs, yours will be 48" long and the chevies are actually 64"  long (everyone one calls them 63's though")   64-48=16  so you gotta make up the difference somewhere.
