aftermarket lift kits?
« on: Apr 10, 2006, 06:57:46 AM »
i know this question may sound dumb, but what kind of lift kits are the guys running here that still use the extended j-arm?  i am building a first gen for my brother, and need about 3" to clear the tires i have for him.  on my first gen i am doing rears up front and chevies, but i need some input for his.  weird question, i know, but i just need a reference on the best kit.

thanks, holley

Having J-arms I asume it must be a 2wd 1st gen.  I thought they had A-arms,  I do not know of any after market companys making lift kits for those years.

okay,
let me simplify this.  i am looking for a lift kit for a 4wd 79-83 truck.  like superlift, rancho, trailmaster, downey, etc.  this will be a street truck (my brother's) with a lift.  a cheap, easy lift kit.  i am saving the hysteer, 85 rears, chevies, and spring hanger for my truck.
thanks, holley

ooohhhh!  Gotcha, a friand of mine has a 3" rough counrty lift, and a SBC, with 35" boggers, the leafs flex pretty well, and hav not had much sag even with the SBC, it flexed well with a 4cyl as well.  I know that the Pro Comp lift are not good, I have herd many stories about there springs breaking.

i would suggest skyjacker as they make the nicest, flexiest bolt on toyota spring. i run 15 year old genuine lift springs up front on my dd. originally they were 3", right now there about 1.5" they aint so soft on the street but im a pleased for light trail running

i used to run the 3" genuine lift from 4wp  and after i broke the springs in they rode nice on the road  (lots of jumping.. flexing the hell out of them..  a rubicon trip.. yadda yadda) and did decent off road

whiteman...by J-arm I think Josho is refering to the steering. Uhm...prolly skyjacker aka skycraper would be the ebst bet. Lilbuddy was running those in his fronts and F150's in the rear and his truck flexed pretty decent. Actually, I think he is still running that setup.
Oh...and if your brother does decided to take it on the trail make sure he has a spare J-arm or two. Those things break easy. Hmmmm, brings back memorys of spending all night on Cadillac hill trying to fix someones truck. :shakehead:
