I have my truck torn down ready to install the new 4" rear springs that I got from Marlin. I tried cutting and grinding the leaf spring mounts off yesterday and that is obviously not going to work. Is a torch going to be the easiest way? I don't have access to a torch so thats why I havn't tried. I just don't want to have to pay somebody to come out and do it. Any other options please!!   :maddest:

I'd like to quit thinking of the present as some minor insignificant preamble to something else~~~~~

so kyle, were you able to cut close enough? You had to do a lot of grinding didn't you?

MiniSimp

No grinding, I just cut off the arms.
The old hanger did not interfere with my new hanger at all. (I'm using chevy's though)

A sawzall will work, as well as a torch.  I used a torch on mine and then ground down the edges so it was smooth.  It took a bit of grinding but it will be smooth and clean when you done.

Yeah, I have to cut the front and rear mounts off. Thanks for the help guys. I will try a sawzall tomorrow!

One more question, When I mount the new hanger on the rear passenger side should I drop the tank to make that weld on the inside of the new mount or should it be strong enough with me just welding the front, back and outer side? I can also weld the inside through the two holes. Let me know if this needs to be more clear. I just don't want to have to drop the tank!

whiteman

I would do it just for the comfort of know it is as good as it could be.
It is worth it to drop the tank, 15min to drop+15min to Re-mount=30min * no worries on the trail*

If it's worth building, it's worth over building

I used a plasma cutter.  Worked great.  left a clean cut so i didn't have to grind.  left the tank in, i just put a peice of sheet metal inbetween the tank the and hanger to help deflect the sparks.

I just cut off one side with a grinder and let the spring clamp clearance off the other side them selves but I guess you could say I used to be a hack

How much is there to removing the tank? Its about 1/2 full too!

6 bolts to take off your tank skid plate,  6 more to undo the tank, and 3 screws to undo the filler neck through the gas door.  Then you have your sending unit wires to unplug, and you fuel return line.

There might be some more little things that im not thinkin of now

If you have the bed off it makes it alot easier
