I am sure this has been discussed on this board, but my question may be a little different than most. I was wondering how difficult it would be to install an e-locker in a 3rd gen that came without one. I know that the housing is totally different and that I would have to locate a complete axle. What I am really wondering is how difficult it would be to wire the system in and if the wiring is possibly in the console as happenstance. I know certain wiring is in all vehicles rather they have it or not. Let me know your thoughts or direct me to some tech articles please.

you don't have to change the housing, just modify it.

Since the E-Locker was never available in a Hilux (including 3rd gen) I am assuming you are talking about a 3rd gen 4Runner (Tacoma style)? If so then, based on the amount of wiring used with the E-Locker setup, my bet is that the wiring does not exist on your truck and that you will have to wire it in yourself.

I wired mine using 3 relays with a simple toggel ON/OFF switch with "Engaged" indicator light. I was supposed to make a layout of the circuit I used but I cant find my notes, so I will have to trace the circuit out long hand, which is something I haven't had time for...

There are a couple good sites with converting a non-E-locking housing to an E-locking housing, such as:
http://67.122.16.97/carterman/4runner/mods/locker/
and
http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/electric_locker/

I still need to get an E-locker for my front end, so for sure I will make a circuit drawing for the wiring when I set it up

Also, we sell the required gasket, studs, washers, nuts, and even the factory wiring loom which can be found here:
