It says it all there dont it  :headscratch: :dunno:
what the hell is a factory Vehicle configuration anyway  :headscratch:

 :usa: :beerwhack:

Supposidly in missouri factory config means structural.  And is determined at inspection not by cops pulling you over.   So if you modify your rig in a way that comprimises its integrity then its not allowed here.  In some vehicles this includes the doors since in some makes they are nessisary to the structural integrity.

It definatly applies to unibodies, and like what someone else said about a kick pannel, I dont think vehicles without them can run without doors...

doors are designed to be removed...otherwise they would be welded to the truck.  :idiot:

There are very few unibody vehicles that depend on the doors for structural rigidity. The frame around the door is where the stress is at. Otherwise, If you put a "twist" on the suspension, you wouldn't be able to open the doors.
It ain't worth doin' if you don't have to clean up afterwards!

If more then half of your tire tread is visable when looked at from the rear, you need mud flaps on the street in California. Read the V.C. it can be found on the State of Calif. DMV web page.

No doors is a judgement call on the LEO's, some say yes, some say no. I have asked at least a dozen LEO's about and get different answers. If they really want to get sticky they can always say it is an unsafe vehicle, impound it on a thirty day hold and in order to get it back you pay the tow fee and impound fee. Then you pay the fees and if you have been a SA to them they are waiting for you as you drive out of the impound yard and they do it all over again. It is hard but not impossible to beat the MAN. In the words of Patrick Swayze in the movie Roadhouse, "Be Nice" as much as you do not want to be, it works.

Never heard of impounding a vehicle for 30 days for unsafe vehicle condition, no drivers license and D.U.I. are the only ones I know of. Yes they could mess with you once you get a release and re-impound your vehicle for the same unsafe condition 10 min. after you get it out, you're not supposed to drive it that way until you get it fixed. I also don't see it getting impounded for not having doors, being to high or not having mud flaps, there is no VC for those. Now if you are a habitual offender for the same offenses then sure you can have it taken.

most states do have mudflap and height restrictions. most states require covering the tire for its complete width and to the center point of the axle. height varies. in washington you can technically only have 3 inches of suspension lift and 2'' of body lift. these are not found in the normal vehicle code but in the state's administrative code most people don't go there to research issues. I have seen rigs get impounded here in Washington for height and mudflaps  :smack: :smack:

Might want to take some measurements and print this one also Duffil:

Frame and Floor Height

24008.5.  (a) No person shall operate any motor vehicle with a frame height or body floor height greater than specified in subdivisions (b) and (c).

(b) The maximum frame height is as follows:

[This table lists the maximum frame height for various types of vehicles.] * Vehicle Type  Frame Height
(1) Passenger vehicles, except housecars 23 inches
(2) All other motor vehicles, including housecars, as follows:
Up to 4,500 pounds GVWR 27 inches
4,501 to 7,500 pounds GVWR 30 inches
7,501 to 10,000 pounds GVWR 31 inches

(c) The lowest portion of the body floor shall not be more than five inches above the top of the frame.

(d) The following definitions govern the construction of this section:

(1) "Frame" means the main longitudinal structural members of the chassis of the vehicle or, for vehicles with unitized body construction, the lowest main longitudinal structural members of the body of the vehicle.

(2) "Frame height" means the vertical distance between the ground and the lowest point on the frame, measured when the vehicle is unladen on a level surface at the lowest point on the frame midway between the front axle and the second axle on the vehicle.

(3) "GVWR" means the manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating, as defined in Section 390, whether or not the vehicle is modified by use of parts not originally installed by the manufacturer.

* The bracketed information has been added editorially to meet accessibility requirements and is not part of statute.

Amended Ch. 718, Stats. 1987. Effective January 1, 1988.

Here is your future ticket for an aftermarket front or rear bumper:

Passenger Vehicle Bumper Requirements

28071.  Every passenger vehicle registered in this state shall be equipped with a front bumper and with a rear bumper. As used in this section, "bumper" means any device designed and intended by a manufacturer to prevent the front or rear of the body of the vehicle from coming into contact with any other motor vehicle. This section shall not apply to any passenger vehicle that is required to be equipped with an energy absorption system pursuant to either state or federal law, or to any passenger vehicle which was not equipped with a front or rear bumper, or both, at the time that it was first sold and registered under the laws of this or any other state or foreign jurisdiction.

Amended Ch. 451, Stats. 1973. Effective January 1, 1974.

that is what I quoted to the cop in my stop.

OPD: your truck is too tall.
ME: Really? I thought vehicles up to 4500 GVW could have a frame height up to 27".
OPD: well, that may be. Step out of the vehicle please.

Or you can tell them you want to speak with their supervisor. They usually do not want their boss to come out there for their stupid BS. tends to shut em up.

As long as it is stupid BS and not a true violation, they will and do request for their supervisors and will make you wait and in the meanwhile they will look for more violations while you wait. A bonus is never ask to see his supervisor if he's got stripes, you're already talking to him.

This was pretty neat! Wyoming has none though, lol, so I guess I do not need to worry. I have one question though: If I travel through a different state am I subject to that states lift laws, or would it still be under my state (WY) laws? I would assume I am still under my states lift laws.

I am pretty sure that you are subject to YOUR state laws. I registered my truck in Illinois (even though I live in Missouri) just in case......Most MO officers aren't too familiar with Illinois laws

Chances are you will be subject to the state's laws in which you are visiting. Probably because they can't prove that you haven't moved there recently.  I know this is true with driving laws.  You may have read the statement on driving laws stating that,"you should check all locals laws before visiting that state".   The cop's view on this might be that of, " if that's what you do in your home state, then stay there".   :slap:

You'd probably have to piss off some young hot shot rookie cop, who's late for his union doughnut break,  though before having this much trouble when sporting out of state plates unless your rig is really ridiculous or you do something really stupid.  :smack:

If you're going wheeling and your rig might be of question in the state where you're headed it might be worth while to trailer it. I would prefer not to have to deal with an out of state ticket myself.  :twocents:
