I am wondering if a 1st gen type 1-A transfer case can be used as the second case in a dual transfer case setup.

Will that t-case bolt to the newer style transmissions and t-cases or is it an oddball because of its age. It is currently mated to a 4 speed. Thanks for your help.

yes, the top shift 1st gen case is what you want behind your late model,probably forward shift tcase crawl box and adapter
