front end options
« on: Mar 12, 2006, 04:22:53 PM »
im building my 2000 cherokee, i've been tryin to find a front axle either a d60 or hd d44 but finding one with a driver side drop has been difficult...i've heard that my transmission is very similar to the toyota counterpart, so i was wondering if anyone new if a yota t-case would bolt up so that i could get a passenger side output so that i could use a chevy front???

Can't answer your question directly, but I think the tranny you're talking about is the ax-15?  Something about that tranny is similar to our Toyota R151, but I can't recall what.  It seems like it wouldn't quite bolt up.  If that were the case, your Jeep transfer case and my Yota case would be very similar in some respects... and well,  that's just wierd.  :scared:

Take a picture of your transmission/transfer case.  Let's see what she looks like.

A short google search reveals all...

Your 2000 Jeep should have the NV3550 5spd trans (assuming it's a manual), not the AX-15, like the 1999 and earlier models.  So, one option for a passenger side drop might be:

drumroll please...

This adapter from advance adapters

And a Dana 300 transfer case described on off-road.com

sorry it's not a Marlin solution.

You could always sell the Jeep and get a late model 4Runner or something?  :qtip:

I'm not sure if this is of any help, but I found it very interesting... I'd read it over if I were you.

I'm thinking that your T-case is a np231 and I think that you can replace it with a Dana 300 like hudlenutz said. Do some searching on google.com or any other search engine and you might find something.

just my 2 cents if you can't find a drivers side drop axle, I would spend the money on a custom built one..
