Topic: Auto Tranny Problem A343H

My 1994 4Runner is equipped with a A343H (normally found in Land cruiser in the US) auto tranny. It looks like it is stuck in some kind of an emergency mode and it wouldn't get into 1st gear. The RPM goes up but it wouldn't move - like it slips. Eventually if I insist on the throttle it will shake, gather some speed and go. In 4WD Low it drives fine.
1. I would like to know if any of you had ever had this problem before?
2. if it's a rebuild situation, is it feasible to change the A343H tranny + integrated T case to a manual from a 1996 Hilux 2.4 diesel?

I only have info on the A340F but I think they are similar. They use solenoids to control shifting. You most likely have one that's failed.
Getting your hands on some service info would be important now. The electronic transmissions have self diagnostics that could help too.
I only have info on the later model A340F sold in the States. I'm not sure things are setup the same on overseas trucks.
