chrystler 999 swaped for TF 727
« on: Jan 31, 2006, 09:09:50 AM »
My girl friends Jeep has the 258 six and a Chrysler 999 auto and not sure what T-case, the transmission is going out and instead of rebuilding I thought why not swap for something stronger.
But i was thinking I have a connection on a dodge one ton that has a TF 727 mated too a NP 205, I could not find and adapter at advanced adapter's that would work.  Does anyone know if this is possable.

The older jeep motor, which would be the 4.2L was a motor know for reliability, and being bullet proof, could run as long as a yot motor.  Though it may take a little more care it is possible.

The 4.0L are a newer engine designe from the 4.2L, more of a rev happy engine then a tourque motor.  Not many peopl realize that the 4.2L from  the factory had a redline of 4500rpm, of course the motor is capable of more but its primary power stock, is off idle to around 3000rpm.  Hers has a cam and off idle to around 3500 it pulls hard, right past 3500 though it falls flat on its face.
My cousin on the other hand had a 4.2L and he had bored it, ported and polished the intake and head, had jacobs ignition on it with a weber carb, that motor had power till 6000rpm, and it was super smooth reving.  He had 35 inch boggers witha 5sp, and 3.08 gears, that was one fast jeep.

I wish we could just throw the whole drivetrain from this dodge under the jeep but its a pretty clean CJ, and there gig is to keep it close to stock because that is how they baught it.  I can understand not wanting to modify a legend, that is rare.
