This is my 84 truck that I got a several years ago out of a wrecking yard.  The engine was blown (timing chain), it was painted camo, and was set up to drive from a tower that used to be welded into the bed.  Here is how it looks now...

I want to see the tower. I think you should have kept it that way, better visibility!

When I got it out of the yard all that was left of the tower were steps going up the side of the cab and some of the control extensions (throttle and steering).  I don't know how they had the shifter set up (if at all) but there was a way to start and stop the truck from the top, as well as steer, brake and accelerate.  I'll post pics of it as it was when I got it, as soon as I get back to Cali.

That would be some funky steerings linkages!

do you have any idea why there was a tower installed?  maybe for construction work or something in a warehouse?

For the steering they had welded a 1/2 inch socked onto the center of the steering wheel, and along with some u-joints and several extensions they connected it to another steering wheel on the tower, that way it was still easily removable to drive it like normal.  They had all this set up so they could use it to hunt on their ranch.  You see in Texas most of the flora is nothing but cedar and scrub (at least in this area).  By building the tower they could cruise around and see a lot farther.  Basically the tower took road hunting to a whole new level.
