Steel Braided Lines
« on: Dec 30, 2005, 08:55:03 AM »
In the process of the tear down of my 4-runner my fuel lines and break lines were damaged.
I was pondering on replacing all the fuel and brake lines that run along the frame with steel braided line instead of the hard lines.

I am going to run a 20gal fuel cell so steel braided lines may be unavoidable.

What are some good lines out there.  I know that summit racing sell's steel braided line's and fittings but I dont know what size to get.

Are there any con's to doing this.
What do I need to take into consideration.

              Thanks

Yeah, I would advise against.  Run steel braided at the axles, but it would cost a fortune to run them throughout the truck.  Also, the hardlines won't swell giving you better pedal feel.  SB hoses reduce the expansion in comparo to rubber hose, but it isn't as good as hardline.  Hardline is cheap and all you need is a little $12 bender and some fittings to run them, it is much easier than you think.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

I think the trick look factor is what is deterring me from going with hard line's.

Maybe I will just run SB in the places it does a-lot of bending.
I have ran the hard line numerous times on my Ford so it's nothing new to me.

I just thought it would look  :bling: ;   it makes sense the hard line would hold pressure better.

Performance before style! :yesnod:

the bling factor means nothing if your truck cant stop or run......
