a few of my built Toyotas...........
« on: Dec 28, 2005, 10:48:15 PM »
I have had fun in the last 6 years building Toyotas,(actually owned a 1981Toyota 4wd longbed new in 1981,, and an 834wd shortbed new in 83,, than I strayed a little!!), until  1999 when I decided that the 1955 CJ-5 Jeep I had built was just not cutting it,!!,, the build was fun (D44s front/rear/lockers/ full rewire/3.8 v-6/t-98,/35s,ect........but after heading down Caddalic Hill on the Rubicon one rainy afternoon on 5/99, and hearing over the C.B. that there was a group heading up,, we pulled over, my Wife and 2 daughters were wrapped in plastic garbage bags and blankets to stay warm/dry (I had a very limited heater, no wipers, and a leaky soft top) as we waited for the vehicles to pass by I  noticed that they were 3, Toyota's,, 2, 4runners, and a Extracab,,,,, they all waved as they passed by,, theywere wearing tee shirts and I could hear the stereo's playing,, as I looked over at my family sitting/shivering, waving back,!!! :smack:
we finished the weekend at the Springs,, and headed home,, that is where I found yet another crack in my elderly 1955 frame,,!,, the next weekend while at work I visited a local used car lot at the local College,, and focused on a shinny 1988 4Runner,,!!,, I meekly called my Wife and suggested what I thought was going to end my marrage!!  (sell the Jeep that I had put soo much time/$$ into and buy/build a Toyota 4Runner),, I waited for the yelling to start,,,,,,,but what I heard was a very calm ""OH MY GOD, THAT iS THE BEST THING YOU HAVE THOUGHT OF IN A LONG TIME !!!, I HATE THAT JEEP,!!)

So it was on,, I immediatly sold the Jeep, (a friend had been eyeing it for awhile),,(not sure why?),, so I bought the 1988 Toyota V-6 4Runner and started my first SAS. in Nov1999, (have since done 7 sas's),,I  called up Marlin and he hooked me up with all the parts for a dual cased 23 spline crawler, mated to the V-6!!,( His Brother actually hand delivered it to me on Thanksgiving Day) , that Runner lasted until I completly destroyed it back in 2004,, in which my newest rig build is the current 1990 4cyl 4-door Runner,,, and now I cannot own enough Toyotas.!!

here are a few pic's of my Toyotas,, starting with  the 1st fleet as of 2.5 years ago,, than the current fleet (with the exception of the 94 4-door in the back yard waiting for my 15 year old daughter to get her licence) 8)

Nice looking toys, especially that 1990 runner.  Never seen someone with so many solid axled yotas.

How do you fit 26 shocks under a toyota?  There wouldn't be any room for springs!

I wish I still had those pictures,, but I lost all my saved pictures about a year ago, when I had some serious viruses attack my puter,!! I lost like 80k files,,,, :maddest:

that was too fun having those 44s on my Runner I air'ed them down (actually pulled the cores),, and I could literally go anywhere in the snow,,, I climbed a snow bank about 10' high and as I crested it and ended up back on pavement I immediatly broke my short side stock D44 axle,,,,,

the d44 front and Toy/D60 rear hybrid,, started life under my 88 Runner (the 1st set of axles I built) than I went 8-lug full width,, and built a 1979 Toyota longbed at which point we put the D44,Toy/D60 under that, and sold the truck to Jake (his 1st rig),, he than rolled/sold that truck and sold the axles to Aaron (gray 83 Toy) and we than built the set of 8-lug D44/ D60s to go under his blue extracab for his senior project,, rumor has it that he will be selling that truck ,, as soon as he installs the Warn shafts and CTM's

I did talk to David at the Round-Up, (cool guy/cool Mag!  ),, he did take down some info,, but I think he kind of  wanted to be the 1st to show it in a mag,, but Brandon from Crawl Magazine had already did a photo shoot for a feature in the 1st issue of his mag,,about 2 weeks before,,,, :),,,,
