ZJ problems.

My sister has a 1996 Grand Cherokee Limited. She has had it since about 99, but today on the freeway we were changing lanes and I was driving her car, just to get a feel for it, and when I was merging into another lane at WOT the motor would go like normal, and then it felt as if I let my foot off the gas, and then it would accelerate again, and then drop off again. All this at about 3,000 rpms. It is the V8 just not sure which motor is in this one. I have no idea what to tell her is the problem. In town she wanted to try and replicate it, so we passed a car on a side road and the problem re-appeared. Only happens when the pedal is all the way, or most of the way down.

sure its not the automatic tranny hunting for a gear? that usually happens @ wot, cant figure if it wants overdrive or needs to downshift to go faster

No then it will just downshift, the tranny is in good shape. The RPMs would hunt from idle to about 3500 rpms. It did not feel good. I dont know if the 30" studded tires have anything to do with it, probably not.

so its cutting out, is it a fuel issue? fuel filter maybe? Did it throw anycodes... Maybe its the TPS.. For $40 wont hurt to change it.

No codes thrown. She drove 120 miles back to Ellensburg the other day and said it didn't come back, so we will just sit on this one for a little while and see if the problem comes back.

hows the ZJ been acting? has the problem came back ?

Havent talked to her much, but she hasnt brought it up. I think it may have just been a random thing, maybe bad gas? Not too worried about it.
