I know it's been done and probably discussed and I searched a little but didn't see anything so I'm going to ask. How many of you have 5" and 40's? I know my two options are to move the front axle or tub the front firewall. I don't really want to move the axle because of the steering and everything like that so I guess my question is, how much tubbing is required to fit this? Am I going to have to move the body mount that's right behind the fender or does it have enough room with it there? Thanks for any input.

it would easier and better to move the axle forward 1 to 2 inch's,then trim the fenders a little and firewall.40's should be ok with a little rubbing when flexed
I'm not responsable for my own action's.

Kane,  dont you have highsteer,   it wont effect your steering at all as long as you dont go more than 2 inches

I have 6 inches of lift, moved the axle forward 1 inch, tubbed the fenders to the body mounts and my 37's still hit.  Just to give you some insite of how far you have to go.

camokid

well i have about 4 inches of suspension and two inches of body and clear 42 with minor rubbing. I do plan to tub the firewall and battery box area. I have rear mains, with rancho 44044s mixed in. I also plan to lower the truck a little more when I get to tubbin. Rgiht now i still comfortably fit into my 7 foot garage:). I would say you could tub the fire wal and do the steering stops and be alright. It seems to me wheel backspacing would make a diferance to.

I found out last night that I can't move the axle forward because I already have the all-pro front springs and they move the axle ahead 1.5"s to start with so to do that I would have to move the steering box ahead also. So now I guess I'll have to resort to trimming A LOT more, but that's what sawzalls and torches are for. I'll try and post some pictures when I'm done.

I think theyre is an article on how to tub firewalls on Marlin's tech page, just to let you know if you need information on how to do it, not saying that you do or anything.

If you are gonna be running 40's I would say you are gonna plate and sleeve your frame for the steering box mount, while your at it you might as well move it all the way foward as you can and cut the all pro hanger off and weld it back on another inch forward.  I had 4" lift and 3" foward with 37s and no rubbing on my firewall, now that I'm at about 6" of lift I could run 40s with a bit of tubbing

ksmith

I managed to get the 40's on. It took some serious cutting and hammering but they fit now. I cut about 2.5"s out of the firewall and floorboard. The night I got them on, Christmas Eve, my dad talked me into trying them out and within 30 minutes had blown 2 Aisin hubs and ruined both of my 30-spline Longs, less than two weeks before a huge trip to Hot Springs. I would post some pictures but I can't yet, my computer is acting up and won't let me load them.

toyota axle is for ~38's or less when you go bigger go 60's
You win some, you lose some.

ksmith

Now that I got them to fit I think I'm about to scrap the axles and suspension and put mogs and 42's with a 4-link.

I put flanges on because they were cheaper and they stood up really well, a buddy has a picture of my truck bouncing about 2 feet off of the ground on a hill in Hot Springs and I never let off of the gas and I tried it 6-7 times in 2nd with the gas to the floor and nothing broke. Although I did shear off the six hub studs earlier in the day.

What happened to the 30 splines?

What happened to the 30 splines?

yah seriously, if you broke them you are one of a few people in the world to do so

ksmith

When the hubs blew it rounded the splines off where the hubs grabbed. It probably wouldn't have done it if I could have taken them off as soon as I did it but I was in a place where I couldn't pull the hubs. So technically I didn't break them.

Have you called Bobby Long yet?  He might replace them.

ksmith

I talked to him and he said that he couldn't warranty them because it wasn't his product that failed, but he did help me out a little on the new ones so I can't complain. He has one of the best customer services that I've ever dealt with.

Hyena

Is there any way you could clean up the splines?

ksmith

No, I thought about just trying to reuse them until I got them off and actually looked at them and the splines were worn down more than half way. Bobby said that I could send them to him and he would put 27-spline inners in them and I could use them as trail spares but I don't think they were even good enough for that. The hubs were broke for a while before I could take them off, I was stuck in about 2-3 feet of water so I couldn't pull them until I got out.
