« on: Dec 05, 2005, 03:39:03 PM »
i have a 93 4runner and im doing a sas here in a month or so and i decided i want to do a leaf spring swap in the rear, do i need a new axle or can i just cut the shirt off of it that i dont need? any info would be great. Or should i just get some all poo coils and rear links and keep it as is. Thanks for the help guys, any would be great.

If you got coils, I would spend the money, stick with the coils.
I am going to swap out my leafs with coils real soon.

If you do swap to leafs in the rear just cut off the coil pads and buckets from the axle and frame, weld on new spring plates, get the springs and then mesure it out where the spring mounts need to go and weld them in.

Doing this and you might as well run a u- bolt flip kit, some johnny joints, and frenched rear spring hangers.

But i would stick with the coils and 4-link it.       IMO= :twocents:

what kind of coils and links would you go with? one of my friends told me he would give me some rubi express yj coils and they seem to flex pretty well but im not sure.

Depends on the spring width and how much lift it will cause...to high and you will kill the geometry of the rear links.  I think they usually don't go over bout 3 inches before you need at least new lower links...
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

it depends on how much lift you want. The all-pro landcruiser springs are a direct fit and will give you 5.5" of lift. I have a friend who has this setup with a SAS in the front and he has the stock links. but i would suggest lengthening the links...

Lots of people run f-150 coils, cherokee coils, or areostar van coils.

TJ coils are used a lot, I have a pic at home I will post up later tonight of a 2nd gen running a tj 4" longarm kit front and rear.
  It has insane flex.
Most likley if money permits i will run TJ coils, probley 4" for me because I am only going for 35's.   :yesnod:

Your only proplem with coils in the rear is that you may rub alot under flex with 37's

yeah i dont want rub so i may end up running 35's and money does permit what i will do since im on high schoolers pay. I was looking at some xj coils but i may end up just going to a pick and pull and finding some coils. Also someone told me 2nd gen 4runners have weak rear suspension mounts, like they will rip off the frame under alot of pressure or if you rock crawl, have any of you heard this? If so what has to be replaced or beefed up so im not stranded on the trail somewhere.
