home made trac bar
« on: Dec 03, 2005, 06:18:19 PM »
when i took the runner on its maiden voyage, i decided that a traction bar was a must, so when i got home i started looking around and they are all like 400-500 bucks...so i made one using 1 inch thich spherical rod ends-1/2 inch thick tubing, and a shackle made for a tandem axle trailer.

it works well and the truck accelerates alot better now

That is nice, good work!
The only thing I don't like is that it is at the end of the axle instead of closer to the center.
And yeah....

i would have like to center it, but on a runner, its really tight because of the enourmas gas tank, an the muffler is rather large and inconvieiently place

Gee Dan, that's really nice!   :hammerhead:

Positioning may not be perfect, but the build is nice and simple and clean.  Me likey.

Dan what you've done looks good and I'm not knockin you at all, but the way you have the shackle set up its not effectively doing anything, the shackle should be set at 30-45* up so the trac bar cant rotate up but can drop down, yours is already at full drop, I'd just take it out of the picture (shackle) take the bar right to the mount on the frame and give yourself the extra 2-3" of clearance (whatever the shackle length is)  :twocents:

Either that or, is there room to flip the shackle up so it sits above the mount...you would have to relocate the mount a little.

the shackle allows the trac bar to get longer and shorter to allow the suspension to trave, and since there are two mount at the axle, it does function quite well, and today, i got stuck in the snow perty bad and burndout and dropped the clutch a ,illion times, not an ounce of wheel hop. but thanks for the ideas
