Pitman Arm
« on: Nov 16, 2005, 08:01:18 PM »
I was wondering how I can get a pitman arm that has a tapered hole to fit a fj tie rod end?
I am doing SAS to my 89 4Runner and I want to change it.  :help:

You can either buy the insert from sky-manufacturing.com or buy the pitman arm from Marlins.

I might be wrong, but I thought that the 2wd PU's had a pitman arm with a tapered hole.

(From DWT on Pirate4x4.com) Heres the difference. The arrow points to the master spline that the 2wd arms have that the 4x one lacks. You'd need to file/grind 2 splines off to use it and put a spacer between the nut and arm to make up the thickness difference. Otherwise its about a 3/4" less drop and about 3/4" shorter too.
The arm in the pic I posted came off a 90 2x with power steering.

I don't think it's tapered for the fj tierod end though, but I guess you could always have it reamed to accept one.

Actually, the FJ tie rods have the same taper as the PU TRE's. It is just the threaded shaft that had the bigger diameter. So, it should accept the FJ TRE.
I think this is talked about in the thread that I posted above!
Hope this helps.
