my truck is having a problem idleing. it idles fine at first but once i start moving and getting the motorr up to temperature my truck just wants to die. its gettting very irretating. i have played with the timing and fuel mixture do to the alttitude difference where im at, would that cause an issue? i had a losse vacumm line but i put that back on. if i were to ditch the whole emissions setup would that help? also i know the truck has a slight miss, could that be the problem? any info or direction appreciated

fuel pump?  plugged cat?  Leak in the intake downstream of the MAF?

Does it try to die at idle like when you're at a stop light, or is it when you put your foot down, you don't get anything?

Skinny_Pedal

well it does cut out at high rpm's but i was thinking it was do to the  miss. the cat is a new highflow, no vacumm leaks from what i can tell, or leaks. it dies at idle at a stop light....really irritating

You could just crank up the idle adjument screw on the intake until you get the miss figured out

How about TPS test/adjustment?

How about TPS test/adjustment?

we set it perfect back at sea level.with the big bore throttle body lc said to set it factory specs. i dunno if the elevation would change how it works?

well here is how i was told
first take the damn thing off (tps) and use some brakeleen and clean it out good, then take a little bit of oil and a little bit of wd 40 then shake the excess oil or wd out so there is just  a little coating on the spring stuff inside, then put it back on , but leave it loose, then hook up a volt meter to the bottom two plugs on the tps the turn the meter to ohms, then get a .032 feeler gauge and put it between the trhottle linkage and the throttle stop plate then very slowly turn the tps till u hit any reading on the meter, right when u hit the numbers stops and tightin the screws on the tps, then that should fix the tps, then u should check your timing cause the tps can play a role in the timing, so jump the teminal t wire the set the timing and you should be good , i had to do this to my truck but mine was because i have a diagnostics plug i got from a hook up at toyota, cause i had no power on a new motor, and it wouldnt idle right either so this mit be the case too. OR do you or do you not have a dash pot on your throttle linkage because those are used for when your engine is running and you let off the gas it makes it so the engine doesnt idle way down then come back to normal every time u get off the gas? well i hope this works bro :beerchug:  :turtle:  :turtle:  :turtle:

whats this dash pot on the linkage? i know my linkage was missing a peice so i used a spring so the trottle would return? i dunno i haven't gone though the truck since its started. ill spend a weekend on it here soon

well go to the link on this site, its the one that is toyota tech, the tech guides , then the one thats 84-88, there should be a 22re vaccum diagram, there is where you know what a dash pot is, but i just did my tps thing like i told u to do and the difference was night and day, then i had to fix the timing and now my truck runs like brand new, no :pokinit:.

so i finally started to play with my truck today. tps was in specs. got the maf adjusted to perfection, but it still wouldn't idle. the truck has a decent cam in it, so it does the shacking thing. i kept adjusting the idle screw until i finally reliezed, it wouldnt hold it postion :shocking:  i could not believe the whole time it was just that, the stupid idle screw not holding in place, little locktite and were good to know. so im now all about the KISS method

FWIW, theres a little o-ring around that idle screw that holds it in place AND seals the passage so unmetered air does not enter the throttle body.  If that o-ring is missing or split, that would explain your screwy idle issue.  Might wanna go order the correct o-ring from the dealership...
