Spend the extra and go billet.  I have seen two forged arms brake one with hydro assist and the other with 37's and stock steering. Both trucks are now running billet and have not broke them.  I am not sure how aluminum holds up under salt conditions.  If you clean and paint them yearly you should not have any problem.

Marlins page says that both arm have the same strength.  One just has a smooth finnish and the other has a rough finish.

One of the arms were from All Pro, the other I am not sure.  I know it wasn't Marlin's, but now they both run marlin billet steering arms.  It is interesting to know that the forged and billet are both the same strength.

All Pros arms are CAST - NOT FORGED! I had APs cast arms on my truck and just replaced them this weekend with Marlins forged arms, which are as strong as the billet arms. The AP arms were not broken, I just didnt want those POS arms on my truck with the chance of breaking on the trail. I wont even have to think twice about it anymore

The same material with a smoother finish will last longer under cyclic fatigue conditions.

If you were to try to pull the steering arms apart, they would break at a similar strength, but if you were to load and unload them day in and day out for years, the one with the smoother finish would last significantly longer.  The main difference comes from the idea that it's easier to start a crack in a material that already has a lot of surface flaws ie. a rougher finish.

That said, you should buy the forged arms and polish them yourself, or just go nuts and shell out the extra cash for the ready-made billet.

...the end. :king:
