R151F tranny help (Marlin)
« on: Sep 20, 2005, 03:41:46 PM »
I purchased a used R151F tranny about a year ago.  Since it was used and out of the vehicle I thought it would be best to rebuild it so I purchased marlin's rebuild kit for it and took it to a local tranny shop that came highly recomended.  I asked them to fully inspect it and rebuild it iwth marlin's kit using the marlin bearing retainer plate.  As for the t-case, I bought marlin's 4.7 23 spline kit with the bearings already press and case already ground.  I noticed that the new case did not have the two bearing retainer tabs that my old 85 case had.  After putting everything back together with new clutch and flywheel I am getting a vibrating/rattling noise in 4th gear.  I only get this sound about half the time.  The other half the tranny/t-case is quite just like with in other gears.  I've double checked every bolt including the yokes, driveshafts. bellhousing, and t-case bolts.
Does anyone have any idea's as to what it could be?

Truck is 85 reg cab  22r 33's 5.29 diff lock right in rear arb in front.  Rebuilt axles front and rear.

Thanks
