Hey everybody! I just acquired an 87 toyota with a bad transmission. I am planning to build it up, and I have a FSM on the way but in the meantime I have 2 questions:

1) WHat is the likely cause of the trashed gear

2) what is the large gear that is bent up in the picture?

ive screwed up alot of trannys and ive never seen any one do such a good job removing gear teath

Seized bearing on the countershaft??

yeah, I've rebuilt my mustangs T5 tranny twice after some pretty nasty stuff, and i've never seen a gear like that! They were driving on an interstate at about 70 miles an hour and then BOOM "a loud noise" and then nothing

ive done that, a bearing exploded and got lodged inbetween the gears and it compleatly locked up when i drained the oil you could here the thuds as gear teath and ball bearings fell out
