I will be aquiring a lincoln locked third soon and have been impressed by what I have heard about aussie lockers. My biggest question is which end do I put them in? I was thinking aussie front and welded in the rear but I was also thinking about my tires cause this is a DD. Will having spool/welded third create that much of a problem going around corners? Should I put the welded in the front and aussie in the rear? Later on down the road I could put a twin stick in and that will make a locked front easier to steer. Im stumped so please give me some input. Thanks

Aussie in the front and the lincoln or spool in the rear.  You want as much give as possible in the front for turning.

sorry dont mean to hijack, but would you still run an Aussie in the front if you were on 36s with stock birfs?

CTENG in KS

Just bring a spare birf till you can afford the  :bling:

Yes, with a twin stick shifter

I have 33's with stock birfs so I am running a Trutrac Limited Slip to avoid breaking, but out of the two provided options (auto locker vs. spool) the aussie will stress the front end less.

buddies truck doesnt have a locker up front but  he is running 40" boggers on it with stock birfs and no breakage.  we will be sticking a electric locker (converted to cable) up front and will continue to run the stockers for a while.. so far so good.  just to give you an idea

It's all in how you drive.  I met a guy in Moab that had dual cases, lockers front and rear, 36 or 38 inch swampers and a set of longs in the back of his truck as spares.  He said they had been there over a year because he hadn't broken the stock ones yet and didn't figure he should bother swapping until they did.  He was a very sane and smooth driver, but he still went all of the difficult places.

I also ran into a guy locally running a detroit in the front with 36 inch swampers and he simply removed half of the studs in the hubs to create a fuse for easy replacement.

How would that work for you? Blow a hub and you get to change that which isnt hard but if your running Aisins that could get expensive. Well thanks for the help, aussie in the front welded in the rear. Oh 85xtracab I'll let you know. Im going to be running 37 mtr's with stock birfs...until they break. I figure the investment of a twin stick is worth it to buy some time for the birfs until I can get some longs
