My old bed was rotting off see the whole side fell off it.

Well it had a little help from a sawzall and angle grinder...

See I was going to bob it but when the whole side of the bed fell off we were laughing too hard to put it back on so I junked the bed.

I do think a flatbed would improve off road performance, infact I KNOW it would.
better clearance, better departure angle, indestructible vs. a sheet metal bedsides (if that worries you), ability to mount VERY long travel shocks vertical (vs. / \ which sucks for dampening) w/o having to worry about punching holes in the bed or ruining useable bed space if u use your truck for hauling, sleeping in, etc.
and they can be built to be more utilitarian...such a spare tire mount, tool box and I would like to make mine capable of holding 2 people to sleep on as well.
The tool box mounted on the side of the bed will be recessed but it will be removable and with a top/latch to turn it into a storage compartment when the box isnt mounted in it, allowing a FLAT bed for hauling items or sleeping on.
in my case it would also lower my COG.

i've always been a fan of a good flat bed and if you are going to make it look anywhere as clean as you truck is now, it will be that good. my vote is for the flat bed
is it bad when you unplug the power wire from your stereo and it still plays
