Gunna bump this thread. Big Mike, you talked about just posting a list of the needed wires for the swap. Did you by any chance do this? Or just have a notepad you can scan?

I'm 90% sure I've got mine dialed right, but would really love a second opinion or some more solid reference. I'm planning to make my own fuse block system, so if I can verify exactly what wires are needed for the engine and possibly relays too I could save so much time.

Thanks!

Looks great! Question- Why aren't ya'll reproducing those engine brackets!?

Nation

Cuz they're too easily made probably.

It's a good Q and the only answer is that we aren't sure if we want to dive heavily into engine conversion parts. We did make a conversion bellhousing, but as a "Rock Crawling" company, we prefer to stay to our roots, or from my perspective, at least perfect our roots before branching outward. We do have a lot in store for 2015 that is not "Rock Crawling" so engine conversion mounts might be something in the works. If we ever do make bolt-in adapters then you'll be sure we'll be marketing them heavily.

BigMike

Absolutely. Since the 3RZ's native transmission (W59) is in the same family/speed as the W56, the bellhousings are interchangeable. So what we are doing is using a T100/Tacoma W59 bellhousing, that has a drivers-side clutch and starter, and bolting that directly onto either a W56 or a G52/54 (uses the same front bolt pattern).
I really really really do not think I would ever build "available" harnesses, mainly because it would be way to much work trying to order new plugs or locating good used harness, and also, in general, there are four different 3RZ versions:
1st gen: Distributor Ignition
2nd gen: Twin coil DIS
3rd gen: Quad coil DIS
4th gen: Quad coil DIS + VVT cam technology (2005 and newer / 163 HP - 183 TQ version)

So I would have to make at least 3 sets of complete harnesses (assuming that no one can really get the '05 versions yet) and I could never stock those nor find the parts to make them factory bolt on compatible.

So instead, I would like to offer a complete pin sheet showing the required plugs and the required pins that are needed to get this engine running. That way the average hobbyist who knows how to use a soder gun could get the wiring done in a weekend. (I sincerely hope no one would ever do an engine swap using crimp-on terminals   :puke:  :reg:  :trout: :thud: :jawdrop: :bricks: If this is you then dont even do a swap :ha_ha: )
Oh man, it boggels my mind how no one can find them. They are litterally crawling all over http://www.car-parts.com Check it out

Ok, I just checked out for '96 Tacomas, and there are over 207 3RZs on there, and that's just from that generation of 3RZs, not to mention the ones in the T100s either!! My advice would be to just start calling up yards. Gather as much info on the truck that brought that engine in as you can. Ask how complete it is, if the harnesses have been cut, what wires are available, complete and what not.

hey big mike!!!!  Did you ever finish that wiring diagram you talked about. Im doing a 3rz swap in my 83 p/u and definitely need help with the wiring

Sorry CodyRB93 but I never presented or made any formal notes on the wiring. How far along are you at the moment and do you know what year your 3RZ-FE is from?

BigMike

Dang ok.  I have a 3rz out of a 95 tacoma.  Ive got my 22r out and im waitin to get my engine mounts from chilkat. And then im changing the bell housing on the tranny like i saw on your feed.  The w56 once the w59.   And i was curious about the radiator. Like if a aluminum 2 core would be ok. Or if i need to get a regular 3 core (I am going to put an electric fan in as well).     And then ill be on the wiring

swilson

I know Big Mike did a 1" body lift along with his engine swap.  I didn't see anything mentioned about a body lift on Bevin's swap.  Was there more room to work with on this 2nd gen body?

Thanks,
Scott

No need for a body lift on a 1st or 2nd gen if your willing to lower the radiator in a 1st gen. 2nd gen no moving anything just bolt an rz in and roll with it.
